after all the wildly terrible shows and rumors of shows, i still insist that this album as a stand alone, one man trashed apartment cassette recording is worth a spin on your record player. wavves, the solo project of nathan williams, is notorious for rough live performances that sound little to nothing like the albums he makes. but that's okay! wavves is practically covered in scotch tape and staples, hidden in noise junk and surf punk sunshine. think of it as wearing your scratchiest, jank sunglasses to the beach. it's like being sixteen and popping a brewsky after a hard night of vandalizing cars. this is not quite immature, but it recalls memories of thrashing around in the basement of the old record store, and summers spent intentionally burying myself deep into the coast of virginia beach.
it's a great summer album. put it on and fuzz out into retro oblivion like the hip kid you are.
i really like "intro goth", which is joined by the other goths, california and beach, both equally lovely. you will catch yourself singing the chorus of "wavves" every time you get in the shower. "lover" is an unintelligible mangle of noise punk that is somehow very charming. "vermin" manages to be the one slow and semi-listenable song on the album. it's a nice one to add to sleep mixes and conjures thoughts of parting black atlantic seas in the night, freezing in the water, and imagining the souls of shipwrecked sailors floating around you.

teenage super party is an all-out extravaganza.

like.

rawr...i just couldn't get into this album..it just seem like the lo-fi ness and fuzz were forced a lot of the time..and i really enjoy noise rock so it kinda surprised..'weirdo rippers' by no age is far superior imo

how would you compare it to the more recent wavves album? on the recent one, I thought half the tracks were good and half were no good.
